Jeri Hollister WORKSHOP
Sponsored by: Michigan Ceramic Art Association
Saturday - February 2, 2013 saw over 50 clay fans and artists at the U. of M. Art & Architecture Building for Jeri Hollisterís Workshop.
The day long workshop began with Jeri showing how she throws the forms used for building her horse sculptures. Next she began forming the legs and mounting them on the base. As she progressed through the construction process she explained how she forms the legs creating the knee, hocks and elbow. Audience questions about techniques used for forming various pieces, drying and the supporting structure were thoroughly explained.
Small groups gathered during the lunch break to examine and purchase some of the pieces Jeri brought to the workshop to display. Names and emails were exchanged as the group mingled and new connections were made.
The afternoon session began with Jeriís power point presentation highlighting her journey in ceramics, with images of inspirations and early pieces. Click here to view her presentation.
Jeri then finished the body and head, skillfully selecting from an assortment of her thrown pieces, sculpting and attaching them to create the body, head and mane of the horse.
We all left a little richer after a wonderful clay experience including new folks we met at the workshop. Below are a few comments about the workshop.
