Established in 1958 in southeastern Michigan as the Michigan Potters’ Association and in 2003 renamed Michigan Ceramic Art Association. We have grown to a statewide organization of over 300 members. Our membership includes studio artists, art educators, galleries, art organizations, potters guilds, students and collectors.

The Michigan Ceramic Art Association is dedicated to the following mission:

• To serve as a communication network for the ceramic community of Michigan.
• To promote and develop the ceramic arts and activities of every form.
• To stimulate further community participation, awareness and appreciation of the ceramic arts as art forms.
• To sponsor demonstrations, seminars, exhibitions and instruction for the personal and cultural improvement of the participants and the community.

To fulfill its mission throughout the state, the Michigan Ceramic Art Association sponsors exhibitions, workshops, and lectures in partnership with other organizations, and publishes a quarterly newsletter which serves as a communication network between artists, students, educators, art organizations and all connoisseurs of the ceramic arts. MCAA sponsors exhibits, both juried and invitational. Workshops, lectures and panel discussions sponsored or co-sponsored by MCAA cover a wide range of subjects from ceramic techniques and history to running a business. We also sponsor the Biennual MCAA juried competition, an exhibition celebrating the works our growing membership.

Our major biennial event is Michigan Mud, a two-day educational conference, featuring demonstrations, exhibitions, slide lectures, and discussions. We invite a nationally celebrated ceramic artist as well as several prominent Michigan artists and teachers to demonstrate and lecture. As the Michigan Ceramic Art Association evolves, our organization continues to fulfill our mission to serve as a communication network for the ceramic community of Michigan.

The Michigan Ceramic Art Association's 501(c)(3) non-profit status is pending. To fund our programs, we rely heavily on donations from individuals and businesses to augment dues collected from our members. Even more important, we rely on the generosity of artists who donate their time for workshops, on institutions who contribute space, materials and funds, and on a small group of dedicated volunteers who spend countless hours planning and implementing MCAA activities.
