Grand Valley State University Art & Design Department: THE CAIR (Ceramics Artist In Residency) PROGRAM
Description: The CAIR (Ceramics Artist In Residency) Program, offered during the Fall semester of each academic year, is a self-directed semester-long residency providing time and space for the visiting artist to pursue a proposed body of work in a stimulating academic community. The artist will be expected to interact and collaborate with students, give lectures and demonstrations about his/her work, present his/her work to the public in the form of a solo exhibition, and offer dialogue and information through Art 380 Ceramics Practicum. GVSU Ceramics program will provide the artist with a studio space and housing, as well as, a gross stipend of $4000 ($1000/month) per semester. All other expenses including food, materials and exhibition costs are the responsibility of the artist. One artist will be selected for the Fall semester of each academic year and will be contacted by the program coordinator in the end of the Winter semester of the prior academic year.
Qualifications: MFA in Ceramics is required prior to the Fall semester of 2010. US resident only. Ceramic artists utilizing either traditional and/or innovative approaches are encouraged to apply. Application Postmark Deadline: February 15th, 2010

Art 380 Ceramics Practicum
• Students pursue creative studies through interaction and collaboration with the ceramics artist-in-residence within his/her proposal. This course offers dialogue & information with the professional artist on how to sustain a studio practice after leaving art school. Offered Fall Semester. Prerequisites: Permission of Instructor. Graded credit/no credit. 1.000 Credit Hour
