It's Empty Bowls Time!
More than ever, organizations which provide emergency services to those in need require our help. In the current economic situation, charities are strained beyond their capabilities. So once again MCAA is asking its members to donate bowls for the Empty Bowls booth at the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival to be held
Friday, August 17, Noon - 9 p.m.,
August 18, 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.,
and
August 19, 11 a.m.- 7 p.m.
Last year we raised $6,500 for the food pantry of the SOS Community Services Crisis Center in Ypsilanti. This means more than 25,000 meals for those in need! The SOS Crisis Center serves over 20,000 people annually, providing emergency food, personal needs items from shampoo to diapers, and a 24-hour crisis line. The Crisis Center depends solely on donations from people like us.
So get busy and make bowls. Susanne Stephenson estimates that we need 2000 functional soup bowl sized bowls and plenty of volunteers to make phone calls or sell bowls at the booth. Price your bowls in $5 increments from $5 to $50 and label each piece with a small white price sticker in heavy print. Pack your donations well in boxes marked with your name and number of bowls.
