Juror Bonnie Seeman will be in Kalamazoo September 13 & 14 for the opening reception awards ceremony and a workshop. The workshop, on September 14, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., and will consist of a slide talk and demonstration of throwing and altering techniques.

Michigan Ceramics 2008 is one ot the few U.S. Exhibitions of its caliber operated entirely by artists. The exhibition showcases the excellence of ceramic art in its diversity across Michigan and in neighboring states. The show is open to all residents of Michigan and all MCAA members, regardless of state of residence. Internationally renowned ceramic artist, Bonnie Seeman (http://www.bonnieseeman.com/), has been engaged as the juror.

This year, Michigan Ceramics 2008 will be celebrating its 50th anniversary with a traveling exhibition. The exhibition will open in Kalamazoo at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts on September 13th and run through October 12th. The exhibit will then travel to Wayne State University’s Community Arts Gallery in Detroit from October 31st through December 19th.

ELIGIBILITY:
Open to all atrists 18 years or older residing in Michigan and all MCAA members regardless of their state of residence. Work submitted must be original, must use clay as the primary material, and must have been completed within the last two years. The artist is responsible for obtaining and holding any releases of persons or copyrighted material depicted in the work.

AWARDS:
One $500 will be awarded in each of the following categories:

  • functional pottery
  • sculpture
  • non-functional, vessel oriented work
  • work by a full-time student (graduate or undergraduate)
  • emerging artists (limited to artists not previously MI Ceramics prize winners and not college or university art faculty).

35 mm. slides or .jpg digital images will be accepted.
